The Thomas Viaduct built for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad between July 4, 1833, and July 4, 1835 is still standing today, after 179 years. It continues to carry the mainline of the CSX between Baltimore and all points south. It was the first multi-span curved stone arch bridge in the US. Not visible in this photo, it consists of 8 arches and is about 600′ from end to end.

We were out talking the dog early, this is the scent that greeted greeted us.

The weekly challenge for Sunday Stills

Taken during the October, 2011 “Downrigging” in Chestertown, Md.

It’s in such perfect shape that it even smells like it’s 1960 again.

This Bald Cyprus tree stands alone on Drummond Lake, The Great Dismal Swamp, Va. Near shore there are a few more.

Anything concerning flying deserves to be reblogged, even if it has an engine.
